Midea, the home?appliance giant and parent company of Kuka Robotics, unveiled a new humanoid robot prototype at the 2025 World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) in Shanghai, held in late July.

The introduction reflects Midea’s growing ambition in embodied intelligence – the convergence of robotics, AI and real?world agency.

Industry reporting from South Korea and China indicates that Midea and other appliance titans are channeling “big” investments into household service robotics. Yicai Global estimates Midea has committed CNY?1.5?billion ($208?million) toward an embodied intelligence technology platform.

Donatos Pizza, the premium pizza company famous for its edge to edge toppings, is opening its first fully autonomous pizza restaurant in June.?

Donatos and its sister company Agápe Automation partnered with Appetronix to bring the robot operated restaurant to life.

The new fully automated restaurant will debut before security in front of Concourse B at the John Glenn Columbus International Airport and will be operated by restaurateur HMS Host. Kuka robots serve up sushi and style at Barcelona’s new fully automated restaurant

A fully robotic restaurant powered by Kuka automation technology has opened in Barcelona, combining cutting-edge robotics with culinary flair in what is described as Europe’s first restaurant of its kind.

The new venue, known as “Rob.A – The Robot Restaurant”, is the result of a collaboration between Kuka and Spanish robotics startup Areas, which developed the concept and integrated the robotics and software behind the operation.
